Even if you have a small space, you can still flex your green thumbs with plants that can be displayed indoors and will not eat into your floor area. The same goes if you don’t really have the talent or patience when it comes to caring for greenery but would like to have plants inside the house. You can enjoy gorgeous visuals at home with the help of the right types of plants and gardening accessories.
A great way to start would be checking out garden centers near you. Minnesota is home to a number of show spaces that will help make it easier to choose the best plant for your space. Whether you are looking for plant decorations for your living room, bedroom, kitchen, patio, balcony, and more, there are plant varieties that will manage to survive and thrive even with minimal maintenance and sun exposure.
Here are five of them:
1. Succulents
Succulents do best in indirect and bright sunlight, but it can also tolerate different exposures. Just avoid having it directly under the sun or it will turn brown and dry out. As indoor plants, they should be watered at least once a week, with some variants needing more watering than others. Be sure to give it a good soak so that some water drains out of the bottom holes of your pot and then place them on a plant saucer before displaying them where you wish.
2. Snake plants
You don’t need to water snake plants every day. In fact, depending on your home’s humidity, temperature, and lighting, you can water it every two to six weeks. Just make sure the soil on top is totally dry before pouring water in again. Too much water increases the risk of your plant rotting fast. Snake plants prefer indirect sunlight exposure, but they have also been observed to be resilient to different types of light conditions.
3. Aloe vera
Aloe vera plants thrive best in temperatures between 13 and 27 degrees Celsius and do not require direct sunlight. It can even survive on artificial light. When watering an aloe plant, you need to apply deeply but do so infrequently. This plant can go for as long as three weeks without water and longer during the winter season. It is recommended that you use dry soil, specifically cactus potting soil mix, for this species.
4. Dragon tree
Madagascar dragon trees are a popular choice for living rooms and hallways. Caring for them doesn’t require so much effort. They need indirect sunlight exposure and watering once a week, or when its topsoil has dried out. This variant grows at its best indoors when placed in a well-draining container with holes. You can place a plant saucer underneath to catch the water, though it’s not advised that you water it too much to create a puddle. As long as its soil is moist, it should be fine.
5. Spider plants
This species is one of the easiest to care for indoors because it needs occasional watering and indirect sunlight. Ideally, it should be watered when about 1” of its topsoil is dry, or once a week. You only need to keep the soil moist and not too wet. Spider plants will look great in the bedroom, the living room, or the hallway. Just keep them away from direct sunlight, otherwise, their leaves will turn brown and wilt.
